After a brief teaching position in the States, Jan was teacher and later administrator at a Third Culture Kid (TCK) school in Indonesia for 14 years. She has lived in Thailand, serving as an Educational Consultant with Asia Education Resource Consortium (AERC) for over 5 years.

As a consultant, Jan meets with families through office visits at The Well. She also consults through phone calls, emails and home visits to encourage, support, and help provide for needs in educating TCKs in Asia. She assists in conducting conferences for families using non-traditional school education in Asia. And she provides educational testing to help determine levels of academic work or determine where there are learning problems and provide recommendations to work through the learning problems. Additionally, the AERC resource center which Jan oversees in Chiang Mai includes a vast library of books and hands-on resources for AERC member families across Asia.
