Cross Cultural Adjustment
Adjustment to a new culture is one of the most important processes for Christian workers living outside of their passport country. From language, local customs, climate, and local foods, to the added task of fitting into new organizational relationships or dealing with isolation - adjustment in a new setting can be very stressful. This stress impacts us all emotionally, physically, relationally, and spiritually.
Debriefing during critical times (new to field, returning home, family transitions) can be a major way of helping with cross-cultural adjustment. Taking one or more sessions to thoroughly process your experience, refocus and set new goals, or to see your experience in the context of your whole life, can reduce stress and regain perspective
A tool that can be helpful in assessing a person’s experience and perceived needs is the CernySmith Assessment (CSA). This brief tool can form the basis for coaching and helping a person identify areas for growth and set personal goals for better adaptation.
The Well has numerous trained CSA coaches who would be happy to work with you. In addition Dr. Boyd is an authorized International Partner and is qualified to provide the basic Level 1 coach training and is available to lead additional training sessions.
